Can you help?

Here at Proactive Education we support Under-Graduates, Vocational, A-Level & GCSE students in finding work experience placements. This is our fourth year supporting Under-grad’s and we have a host of very positive statements from existing supporters including; Gunner Cooke Solicitors, The Sytner Group, FTZ Studios, Hoxton Property, The Castle Group, Bernhard & Co. and BMW. We currently have an amazing crop of 70 high calibre, highly motivated and committed second & third year University Students mainly from Liverpool and Nottingham Uni’s. They are looking for a work experience placement, Summer 2020 for 4 weeks mainly in IT, Finance Marketing, Manufacturing, Engineering and Design. There are no costs to businesses. We rigorously interview the students to ensure their commitment and calibre, maintaining continuous communication with them. We will have CV’s to forward from next month. If you are able to support the next generation and give them a valuable opportunity to get some real life work experience and to see what careers in their field of interest are really like, we want to hear from you. We currently work with schools in the West Midlands, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Leicestershire. As we’re a Warwickshire based business we’re hoping to add some local schools soon. If you’d like one of the team to pop in and give you more details please drop an email to info@proactiveeducation.co.uk or call 0800 634 9277.

Proactive News April 2019

We hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter and is ready for the summer term! The team here is continuing to finalise placements for international students during the summer along with ensuring everything is in place for all the students going out on work experience in June and July. Please contact Nick, Sam or Hilary anytime on 0800 6349722 or via info@proactiveeducation.co.uk should you need any help with IAG, T-Levels, SEN Placements or Gatsby benchmarks 5&6. Sidney Stringer Events We organised our first two events at Sidney Stringer before Easter. We welcomed some brilliant employers from diverse businesses such as Jaguar Land Rover, Coventry Building Society, Stratford Manor Hotel and The Metro Bank who supported Year 10 students as they prepared their CVs and Year 9 students who took part in a Speed Interviewing morning to get them to start thinking about the kinds of careers and paths they might take. Thank you everyone for helping to make these events so worthwhile and enjoyable. Sponne CV Preparation Morning Sixth form students joined a group of employers at the end of March to fine tune their CVs in readiness for finding and applying for job roles. Proactive brought in bespoke employers from JBC Training, Wilson Browne Solicitors, Abaco, South Northants Council amongst others; thank you all for supporting. Your help and advice is invaluable to our young people as they prepare themselves for the world of work. Guilsborough Enterprise Day The School had a day off timetable to put on all kinds of enterprise and careers events for the students on 29th March. Year 7 students enjoyed a fun morning working in teams to set up a farm, decide on how to manage the project, set budgets, assign tasks and so on. We had business people on hand to guide the students and they were very impressed how well the teams did. In the hall, we had employers from Cummins Engineering, Igloo Publishing, Anglian Water, Heart of England Training and many others being interviewed by Year 10 students. The young people asked lots of interesting questions to find out more about job roles, progression routes etc. It was a productive and rewarding day for all who took part: thank you to everyone involved.

FAWLTY TOWERS ENTERPRISE DAY YEAR 8 WEDNESDAY 25th APRIL 2018 08.45AM - 13.30PM - YEAR 8 STUDENTS This is always a super day with the students, there is lots of gluing and sticking and they can use their imaginations. We provide the students with details of a rundown hotel that needs to be brought back to life. They have to break their teams up into General Managers, Housekeepers, gardeners, restaurant managers, etc. They can choose the name of the hotel, they can choose the type of hotel they want it to be. The students design the rooms, the restaurant, create a menu, all the exciting things we wish we could all do when we stay at hotels. You don't have to work in hotels but if you have stayed in hotels and have had that experience or you eat out at lots of different restaurants you too can help the students. We will work with the students the first couple of hours and then after lunch we will judge the hotels and choose winning teams from the year group. To those employers who have helped with this day before, you were brilliant and we would welcome your support again for this day. Lunch, Tea, and Coffee will be supplied throughout the day.

FAWLTY TOWERS ENTERPRISE DAY YEAR 8 THURSDAY 9th MARCH 2017 9.00AM – 13.30PM

This is always a super day with the students, there is lots of gluing and sticking and they can use their imaginations. You don’t have to work in hotels but if you have stayed in hotels and have had that experience or you eat out at lots of different restaurants you too can help the students. We will work with the students the first couple of hours and then after lunch we will judge the hotels and choose winning teams from the year group. To those employers who have helped with this day before, you were brilliant and we would welcome your support again for this day. Lunch, Tea, and Coffee will be supplied throughout the day.

BUSINESS AND EDUCATION HAVE COME TOGETHER TO SECURE FUNDS TO BOOST LOCAL TOURISM INDUSTRY

Stratford-upon-Avon College, in collaboration with Henley-in-Arden School, Proactive Education, QHotels and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, has been successful in its bid to secure funding for a new youth engagement project soon to be delivered in Warwickshire. 22 businesses and education providers submitted proposals for the Warwickshire County Council Skills for Employment Major Grant. The College’s proposal focused on raising awareness of Hospitality and Travel & Tourism as a viable career pathway, to address a skills shortage in both sectors and to support an industry that is crucial to Stratford’s local economy. This bid brought together parties with which the College has a proven track record, cementing the its commitment to the surrounding community and helping to make a major positive difference to the employability of young people in the county. Engaging with students from Year 7 upwards, the project will offer them access to all aspects of the hospitality and tourism sectors - everything from the usual customer relations and catering, to areas such as event management and business administration; teaching them transferable life skills - communication, computer skills, team work – skills that are required in various degrees in every job; and help them make informed choices. The College is delighted to be working with four local organisations – Henley-in-Arden School, Proactive Education, QHotels and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. By benefiting from the combined expertise of a school, a further education college, an employer engagement specialist and local employers, the College will be in a position to improve the transition of young people from education into employment. One example of this enhanced partnership between education provider and employer is that all students on the programme will work closely with mentors from QHotels and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, giving students a real insight into the world of work and prepare them for an interview at the end of Year 11 for apprenticeship opportunities. Commenting on the working relationship between the five partners, Stevie Edmund-Jones, the College’s Head of Employer Engagement, said: “We are delighted that Warwickshire County Council has approved our bid. We all believe that with the knowledge and expertise all parties possess, we have the making of an excellent model that can be replicated in other areas.” Although the project is designed to run from the beginning of next year until the end of July, the College aims to get to the point where the programme is sustainable; when the funding period ends, they hope to have established a network of training mentors capable of supporting new businesses and addressing the skills shortages in the county. Once proven results are seen, they believe their project will become a model for the formation of new partnerships between business and education across other high priority sectors.
